The Committee for Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering aims to provide education and knowledge exchange for members of SAEE, as well as for other professionals interested in geological engineering (geotechnics, geophysics, and hydrogeology) and seismology, with a particular focus on the application of these disciplines in earthquake and geotechnical engineering.
The initiative seeks to encourage professionals working in geo-engineering from Serbia and the wider region to actively participate in this multidisciplinary commission. The overarching goal is to raise the overall quality of practice through the use of appropriate types and scopes of field and laboratory investigations. These investigations are essential for achieving more rational and reliable aseismic design and risk assessment of both geotechnical and conventional structural systems.
Structural engineers who are not specialized in soil mechanics, soil dynamics, or foundation engineering are especially welcome to join the work of the commission. One of the commission’s key objectives is to promote better communication in practice between engineers who design (model) the main structural system and those who design foundation systems and determine (adopt) geotechnical parameters.

Activities
Members of the committee are engaged in organizing the expert workshop titled “The Benefits of Considering the Dynamic Response of Subsoil and Foundation Systems in the Overall Dynamic Behavior of Structures.”
In addition, the committee plans to contribute to the European Geotechnical Database, which operates under the EFEHR consortium, by encouraging the participation of experts from Serbia and neighboring countries.
