Establishment of the SAEE "Committee for Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering"
19.03.2020

The Executive Board (EB) of SAEE established the "Committee for Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering" and proposed the following members: Dr Željko Žugić, Civ. Eng. (Chair), Dr Dušan Berisavljević, Geo. Eng. (specializing in geotechnics), Dejan Naumov,  Geo. Eng. (specializing in geophysics), and Prof. Dr Boris Jeremić, Civ. Eng.

The Committee for Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering aims to educate members of SAEE and other colleagues whose interests lie in geological engineering and seismology, as well as to promote the application of results from these disciplines in earthquake and geotechnical engineering. The idea is to encourage professionals working in geo-engineering from Serbia and the region to participate in this multidisciplinary committee, with the goal of raising the quality standards through the appropriate types and scope of field and laboratory site investigations. This would enable more rational and reliable seismic-resistant design and risk assessment for both geotechnical and conventional structural systems. Conventional structural engineers who are not specialists in soil mechanics, soil dynamics, and foundation engineering are especially welcome to join the committee’s work, as one of the main objectives is to establish better communication in practice between engineers who design (model) the main load-bearing structure and colleagues who design foundation structures and model (adopt) geotechnical parameters.
