The 10th Regular Assembly Session of the Association was held electronically from July 1 to July 10, 2024. Based on the votes of the Assembly members, decisions were made—among others—regarding the election of the new leadership of the Association, consisting of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
The new President of the Association, Prof Dr Božidar Stojadinović, has been elected. He will succeed the outgoing President, Prof Dr Svetlana Nikolić-Brzev, who has held this position since 2018.
Prof Dr Božidar Stojadinović, M.Sc., Civil Engineer, is the head of the Department of Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. Before joining ETH in 2011, he was a professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Belgrade in 1988, earned his Master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1990, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley in 1995.
Dr Stojadinović's research focuses on seismic risk and resilience of buildings, settlements, and regions, probabilistic design for target behaviors, techniques for improving the dynamic response of structures, and experimental methods for dynamic testing of hybrid structural models. He has published over 350 papers with the help of 47 doctoral students and many Master's students.
Dr Stojadinović has been a member of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) since 1995 and the Swiss Society for Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics (SGEB) since 2011. He is also a member of professional societies such as ACI, AISC, and ASCE, where he participates in the development of codes and standards for the design of buildings and bridges.
Dr Stojadinović is one of the nine founding members of SAEE and has been a member of the SUZI Board of Directors since its establishment in 2018. He is an active member of the SAEE Seismic Risk Committee. https://suzi-saee.rs/komisije/komisija-za-seizmicki-rizik.
The new Vice President of the Association, Dr Marko Marinković, M.Sc., Civil Engineer, has been elected. He succeeds Prof. Dr Ratko Salatić, the outgoing Vice President.
Dr Marko Marinković, M.Sc., Civil Engineer, is an assistant professor at the Department of Technical Mechanics and Structural Theory at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade. Dr Marinković graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade in 2012, and then enrolled in doctoral studies in Civil Engineering at the same faculty. He defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Innovative System for Seismic-Resistant Masonry Infill in Reinforced Concrete Frame Structures" in 2018. Since 2019, he has been employed as an assistant professor at the Department of Technical Mechanics and Structural Theory at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade. Dr Marinković’s scientific and professional work focuses on the seismic analysis of reinforced concrete, masonry, and steel structures. He participates in several international projects, such as the European project (SPIF-SERA) for testing steel industrial buildings on a seismic platform (shaking-table) at EUCENTRE (Pavia, Italy), as well as the FLEJOI project related to testing reinforced concrete structures with masonry infills (under the Horizon project ERIES), and the RELAR project funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia. He is the author of over 65 papers in national and international journals, as well as at international and domestic conferences, and he serves as a reviewer for 10 international journals. He is also a member of the working group CEN/TC 250/SC8/TG3 established by the European Commission for preparing the second generation of Eurocodes, as well as the Commission KS U250-1.8 "Fundamentals of Design, Effects on Structures, and Seismic Design," at the Institute for Standardization of the Republic of Serbia. He is an active member of the European Association for Earthquake Engineering (EAEE), participating in the working group WG13 on seismic assessment, design, and sustainability of industrial buildings.
Dr Marinković has been a member of SUZI since its founding in 2018, and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Association since 2021. In 2022, within SAEE, he founded the Commission for the Study of Earthquakes through Study Visits, https://suzi-saee.rs/komisije/komisija-za-izucavanje-zemljotresa-kroz-studijske-posete, which he also chairs.
The Secretary of the Association, Milica Petrović, M.Sc. Architect, ZOLING d.o.o., Belgrade, has held this position since 2022 and will continue this role in the upcoming term.
Milica Petrović, M.Sc. Architect, performs professional supervision of architectural and construction works for high-rise buildings at ZOLING d.o.o., and is also a doctoral student at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture (UB-AF). She completed her undergraduate and master's studies on time at UB-AF. She defended her master's thesis on the topic "Multiplication of the Basic Structural Element as a Method of Forming Spatial Structures" and the master project for protective structures with the highest grade. From 2017 to 2023, she worked as an assistant in the field of Architectural Construction and Structural Systems at UB-AF. In addition to her teaching duties, she was a member of several faculty committees, participated in organizing conferences, and co-authored the exercises for the course Theory of Structures. She is the author of seven scientific papers published in national and international journals, as well as eight papers presented at international conferences. Alongside her scientific work, she was involved in the design and execution of architectural projects for business and residential buildings, which included project organization and integration across various disciplines, as well as supervision during construction.
Milica became a member of SAEE in December 2018, when she participated in organizing a three-day seminar by Professor Andrew Charleson, titled "Conceptual Seismic Design of Buildings for Architects." Within the Association, she is a member of the Commission for Seismic Risk and the Commission for Earthquake Protection. She is the chairwoman of the Commission for Publications and Communicationhttps://suzi-saee.rs/komisije/komisija-za-publikacije , and the editor of SUZI's eNewsletter. She is a co-author of the exhibition "The Great Belgrade Earthquake of March 24, 1922 – A Reflection on the Past and Preparation for the Future," which was prepared in 2022.
A new Treasurer of the Association has been elected, Matija Bošković, M.Sc. Civil Engineer, who is taking over this position from the former Treasurer Jovana Borozan, M.Sc. Civil Engineer.
Matija Bošković, M.Sc. Civil Engineer, is an assistant and doctoral student at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade. He completed his undergraduate and master's studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade, defending his bachelor's thesis (2022) and master's thesis (2023) in the field of earthquake engineering, after which he enrolled in doctoral studies at the same faculty. He is employed at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade, as an assistant at the Department of Technical Mechanics and Structural Theory. He actively participates in preparing materials and conducting exercises for the courses of Structural Statics 1, Structural Statics 2, and Dynamics of Structures and Earthquake Engineering. Matija Bošković's scientific and research work is related to earthquake engineering, where he has so far focused on assessing the seismic risk of high-rise buildings in urban areas, evaluating the impact of certain structural parameters on seismic risk, analyzing methodologies for rapid seismic risk assessment of buildings in Serbia, and numerical modeling and dynamic analysis of buildings exposed to seismic forces. Matija has published several papers in conferences and journals and recently participated in the 18th World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (WCEE2024), which was held in Milan, Italy.
Matija became a member of SAEE as a student in 2022, and since 2023, he has been an active member of the Publications and Communication Committee https://suzi-saee.rs/komisije/komisija-za-publikacije. He is responsible for updating the SAEE website https://suzi-saee.rs/ and preparing announcements related to SUZI activities and video recordings of lectures on SAEE's YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/@suzi-saee9813.
We congratulate the newly elected members of the SAEE leadership and wish them success in managing the work of the Association and launching new initiatives of interest to SAEE members in Serbia and the region.
