From July 1st to July 10th, 2024, the Tenth Regular Assembly Meeting of the Earthquake Engineering Association (SUZI) was held electronically. Based on the voting of the assembly members, a decision was made regarding the election of a new honorary member of the Association. The SUZI Board of Directors proposed Prof Dr. Tatjana Isaković, MSc Civil Engineer, as an honorary member of the Association due to her exceptional contribution to the development and application of earthquake engineering at the international level.

Dr. Tatjana Isaković is a full professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy, University of Ljubljana, and the head of the Department of Structures and Earthquake Engineering at the same faculty. She graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade, in 1987, and completed her Master's and PhD at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy, University of Ljubljana, in 1993 and 1996, respectively. The focus of her research work is primarily on the seismic response analysis of reinforced concrete structures, design, and experimental studies of reinforced concrete walls, bridges, and prefabricated structures. The results of her research have been directly applied in several international technical regulations, such as ISO standards for seismic design of reinforced concrete prefabricated structures. She was involved in the implementation of the first generation of Eurocode regulations in Slovenia and has made significant contributions to the development of the second (future) generation of Eurocode 8, including through her research results related to the seismic design of reinforced concrete bridges and walls. Prof. Isaković also deals with the assessment of seismic resistance, strengthening techniques, and experimental research of existing structures, contributing to the development of the new generation of Eurocode 8/3 regulations for assessing seismic resistance and seismic strengthening of existing structures. 

Prof. Isaković has also participated in the development of innovative approaches for protecting elements of reinforced concrete structures from earthquake effects, such as reinforced concrete panels in prefabricated buildings. This approach, based on the use of metal or synthetic ropes (synthetic restrainers) that are activated in extreme cases when a panel is at risk of collapse, is also applicable for preventing the collapse of heavy elements exposed to dynamic and monotonous loads. Part of this research was conducted within the international SAFECLADDING project (Improved fastening systems of cladding wall panels of precast buildings in seismic zones) from 2012 to 2014. Within the VAST-IMAGE project (2002-2006), Prof. Isaković also participated in the development of a prototype of an innovative semi-active device for seismic isolation of structures. In 2006 and 2010, Prof. Isaković was part of the research team that won first prize for the best numerical simulation of the behavior of reinforced concrete building structures exposed to seismic action on a shaking table, as part of significant international projects.

Throughout her distinguished professional career, Prof. Isaković has also participated in several significant engineering projects, such as the project of the first seismic-isolated viaduct in Slovenia – the Ločica Viaduct, the revision of the cooling tower project of the Šoštanj Thermal Power Plant, the revision of the operational support center project of the Krško Nuclear Power Plant, the analysis of competition solutions for the Črni Kal Viaduct in Slovenia, as well as the seismic strengthening project of a viaduct in Las Vegas, USA.

She has published over 200 publications, including 60 articles in international journals and 25 invited papers at conferences. In addition, she has co-authored 13 professional books and participated as a co-editor of the book "Seismic Design and Assessment of Bridges: Inelastic Methods of Analysis and Case Studies," published by Springer in 2012. Prof. Tatjana Isaković is the vice president of the Slovenian Association for Earthquake Engineering and has been a member of SUZI since its founding in 2018.
