The first online seminar organized by SUZI was held on September 17, 2020, on the topic: "Numerical Modeling of Soil-Structure Interaction in Earthquake Engineering." The seminar was attended by over 40 SUZI members and other interested colleagues.
Lecturers at the seminar were distinguished experts in the field:
Prof. Dr Boris Jeremić, University of California, Davis, USA
Asst. Prof. Dr Sara Amoroso, University of Chieti-Pescara, Italy
Dr Željko Žugić, Office for Public Investment Management, Government of the Republic of Serbia
You can find detailed information about the lectures and speaker biographies here.
Video recordings of the seminar and PDF versions of the presentations are available below.
The aim of the seminar was to address the complex and multidisciplinary topic of Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) by analyzing its three key components: earthquake, soil, and structure. The speakers presented the current state of practice in Europe and the advanced modeling techniques used in the United States. The seminar was designed to bring together professionals from various fields—civil engineering, geology, geophysics, and seismology—with the goal of offering a comprehensive overview of how each component affects the reliability of numerical models.
Seminar Program:
1. Opening remarks – Dr Svetlana Nikolić-Brzev, SAEE President
2. Earthquake – Dr Željko Žugić and Prof. Dr Boris Jeremić
3. Soil – Asst. Prof. Dr Sara Amoroso and Prof. Dr Boris Jeremić
4. Structure – Prof. Dr Boris Jeremić
5. Discussion
6. Closing remarks
Video Recordings:
Seminar video recording – Part 1: Earthquake and Soil
Seminar video recording – Part 2: Soil and Discussion
Slides (PDF format):
2.1 EARTHQUAKE (Dr. Željko Žugić)
2.2 EARTHQUAKE (Prof. Dr. Boris Jeremić)
3.1 SOIL (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sara Amoroso)
