On Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 16:00 to 17:00, a lecture titled "Assessment of Seismic Performance of Multi-Story Reinforced Concrete Frame Structures" was held in room 141 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade. The lecturer was Prof. Dr Đorđe Lađinović, civil engineer, retired full professor at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, and honorary member of SAEE.

Abstract
The lecture topic is the assessment of seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures in multi-story buildings designed according to the provisions of EN 1998. These structures possess satisfactory seismic resistance only if their ultimate capacity, with a certain safety margin, exceeds the seismic demand imposed by strong earthquakes.
Reinforced concrete frames of various heights, ductility classes (DCM and DCH), and design seismic actions (0.2g and 0.3g) were designed according to European standards EN 1998 and analyzed for the significant damage limit state (SD) according to EN 1998-3. The seismic assessment of the ductile elements of the RC frames was determined by verifying that the required tendon rotations do not exceed the respective capacities.
Additionally, seismic responses were analyzed at global and local levels. At the global level, lateral displacements were observed; at the story level, relative story drifts; and at the local (cross-section) level, the response was assessed via the demanded curvature ductility values. Schemes and development of plastic hinges in the analyzed frames were also presented.
The assessment was conducted using nonlinear static analysis with two lateral load distributions.
This lecture is part of SUZI’s educational activities on seismic design of reinforced concrete structures, primarily intended for practicing engineers, students, and other interested colleagues.
Speaker Biography
Dr Đorđe Lađinović, Civ. Eng., is a retired full professor at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad. He taught courses in the specialized scientific field of Structural Theory within the study programs of Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Disaster and Fire Risk Management. At FTN, he introduced the new field of earthquake engineering and established six new courses at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. He supervised over 150 undergraduate and master’s theses, acted as mentor for 3 master’s theses and 4 doctoral dissertations, and participated in numerous committees for thesis and dissertation evaluations and defenses at universities in Novi Sad, Belgrade, Niš, and Podgorica.
In his professional work, he focuses on the design of reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry structures, with a special emphasis on dynamic structural analysis. Besides two original professional achievements—one being a nationally recognized construction authorship accepted by the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of Serbia, and an award-winning conceptual design for a Danube River bridge in Novi Sad—he contributed to over 100 main and execution design projects (including residential complexes, business centers, bridges, sports halls, silos, water towers, tunnels, and specialized engineering structures) and numerous reports for the repair and strengthening of existing buildings.
He was part of the main team conducting load testing of the Ada Bridge over the Sava River in Belgrade and the railway-road bridge over the Danube in Novi Sad. Most of his scientific and research work involves the analysis of construction structures under linear and nonlinear behavior, development of numerical models, and seismic structural analysis.
He contributed to over 30 national scientific research topics, projects, and subprojects, as well as 4 international scientific research projects. He led three national research projects and one subproject. He has published over 250 papers in national and international journals and conference proceedings. By invitation, he has delivered over thirty lectures at national scientific meetings and, as author or coauthor, three keynote lectures at international scientific conferences. Through his research, he contributed scientifically by defining a new earthquake damage index for structures based on monitoring the complete deformation history, developing and applying modern behavior assessment methods during earthquakes, and developing and implementing computer programs for seismic response assessment of structures under linear and nonlinear behavior.
Prof. Lađinović became an honorary member of SAEE in 2021.
