Lecture "Seismic Design of Reinforced Concrete Frame Structures" by Dr Srđan Janković
05.03.2023

On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, from 16:00 to 17:00, in room 141 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, a lecture titled "Seismic Design of Reinforced Concrete Frame Structures" was held.

The lecturer was Dr Srđan Janković, civil engineering graduate and full professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Montenegro, Podgorica.

Below are the lecture abstract, lecturer’s biography, as well as the recording, images, and slides from the lecture.

Abstract

Reinforced concrete frame systems and dual systems with frame dominance subjected to seismic forces are the focus of this lecture. After presenting the general characteristics and basic design principles of frame structures, all frame elements—beams, columns, and joints—that participate in resisting and transferring seismic forces are elaborated in detail. Emphasis is placed on explaining the seismic behavior of these elements, which is highly specific: due to the intensity of seismic loads that can far exceed other loads, the elements are expected to behave beyond the elastic range and exhibit cyclic and alternating behavior.

This lecture is primarily intended for civil engineers involved in designing buildings in seismic regions, as well as students and other interested professionals.

Speaker Biography

Dr Srđan Janković, Civ. Eng., is a full professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Montenegro in Podgorica, specializing in Concrete and Masonry Structures and Earthquake Engineering. He currently teaches courses on Fundamentals of Earthquake Engineering at the undergraduate level, and Seismic Design and Design of Seismically Resistant Reinforced Concrete Structures at the master’s level at the Civil Engineering Faculty, as well as Seismic Planning and Design at the Faculty of Architecture in Podgorica. He has supervised numerous undergraduate and master’s theses and one doctoral dissertation.

He has published numerous scientific research papers on the behavior of reinforced concrete structures under seismic actions and probabilistic assessment of frame structure performance. Alongside his research, he has been the responsible designer on several major building projects, including two bridges on the Bar-Boljari highway. He is the author of two books: “Fundamentals of Seismic Planning and Design – For Architecture and Civil Engineering Engineers” and “Seismic Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings According to Eurocodes.”

Professor Janković’s book, “Seismic Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings According to Eurocodes”, published at the beginning of 2022, is available through AGM Books and will be offered at a discounted (fair) price during April.
