We are pleased to inform you that the Serbian Association for Earthquake Engineering (SUZI), in collaboration with the publisher Akademska misao, has published its first detailed SAEE publication titled: "Consequences of the November 26, 2019 Earthquake in Albania on Buildings and Infrastructure."

Shortly after the earthquake that struck Albania on November 26, 2019, the leadership of SAEE formed a four-member team that visited the affected areas in Albania from December 27 to December 30, 2019. The goal of the visit was to collect data on the consequences of the earthquake relevant to engineering practice in the Republic of Serbia. The team members were Dr Svetlana Nikolić-Brzev, Dr Marko Marinković, Ivan Milićević, and Nikola Blagojević. Following this relatively short visit, the SUZI team gathered sufficient information and, with support from colleagues at NOVA University in Lisbon and the Polytechnic University of Tirana, prepared the publication titled: "Consequences of the November 26, 2019 Earthquake in Albania on Buildings and Infrastructure."
This 80-page publication consists of 9 chapters. The first two chapters present data on the earthquake and the seismological characteristics of the affected areas and the region. Chapter 3 provides information on the chronology of technical regulation development, significant past earthquakes, and construction technologies typical for different historical periods. This forms the basis for analyzing the damage observed in buildings with various structural systems, which are covered in Chapters 4 and 5. Chapters 6 and 7 describe the earthquake’s impact on infrastructure in the affected areas, as well as building functionality and community recovery. Chapter 8 presents the most important conclusions regarding the earthquake’s consequences and offers recommendations for seismic design of buildings relevant to engineering practice in Serbia.
It is important to highlight that by sending a team to the earthquake-affected areas and publishing its first detailed report, SAEE has opened a new chapter in its work and plans to take part in similar future initiatives.
