Lecture "Calculation of reinforced concrete sections with complex geometry under earthquake effects according to Eurocode 8" by Petar Bajić

Online lecture on the topic “Calculation of reinforced concrete sections with complex geometry under earthquake effects according to Eurocode 8” was held on March 16, 2022, from 15:00 to 16:00 via Zoom platform.


Abstract


The goal of the lecture was to present the procedure for calculating reinforced concrete sections of complex geometry under seismic effects according to the requirements of Eurocode EN 1998-1:2004. In high-rise buildings, the elements commonly used to ensure lateral stability are reinforced concrete cores, most often of complex geometry; in shapes such as T, U, C, L, I, and other similar cross-sections composed of multiple individual rectangular walls.

The need for such analysis arises from the requirements of Eurocode 8 that reinforced concrete cores, i.e., sections of complex geometry, be considered by taking into account the interaction of their individual parts.

This lecture is part of the SAEE educational activity series on seismic design of reinforced concrete structures and is primarily intended for practicing engineers, students, and other interested colleagues.


Speaker Biography



Petar Bajić is a researcher employed at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – UPC (Polytechnic University of Catalonia), where he has also been a PhD candidate in the Department of Civil Engineering since 2021. He completed his undergraduate and master's studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade, with a thesis on the assessment of seismic resistance of existing reinforced concrete structures according to Eurocode EN1998-3:2005. From 2018 to 2021, he worked as a designer of steel and reinforced concrete structures in the United Arab Emirates and Serbia.
