As part of the 18th European Conference on Earthquake Engineering (ECEE2026), a special session entitled “Seismic Exposure of the Western Balkan Countries” was held. The session was chaired by members of the SUZI Board – Prof. Božidar Stojadinović, Prof. Svetlana Brzev, and Associate Professor Marko Marinković.
The session was very well attended and brought together experts and researchers interested in earthquake engineering and the seismic exposure of the Western Balkan countries. Through presentations and an open discussion, participants exchanged experiences and presented research findings from across the region. The discussion resulted in a number of valuable conclusions, as well as ideas for future steps and further collaboration.
We would especially like to thank the authors and presenters for their contributions and active participation, as well as all attendees whose questions and comments contributed to the quality of the session.
This session represents another important step towards strengthening professional and scientific cooperation in the field of earthquake engineering.
In addition to the special session, SUZI had a strong presence at ECEE2026, with more than ten members of the Association participating in other conference sessions through paper presentations, professional discussions, and the exchange of research findings. Their participation further contributed to the visibility of Serbia’s professional and scientific earthquake engineering community at the European level.
