Committee for Seismic Hazard
Area of work
The Committee for Seismic Hazard primarily aims to educate SAEE members, practicing engineers, and other colleagues whose interests include both the analysis of seismic hazard itself and the application of various seismic hazard analysis results as input data in earthquake engineering. The committee’s goal is to familiarize primarily graduate civil engineers in the Republic of Serbia and the region with the procedure for determining seismic action in accordance with Eurocode 8, including the meaning of various terms related to seismic hazard and possible sources of uncertainty in input data for structural design (design spectra, design accelerograms, peak ground acceleration values, etc.). Another objective of the committee is to analyze how design spectra and design accelerograms are defined in Eurocode 8, both in the current version and in the new version expected to be adopted within the next few years, which will significantly change the methods for calculating design spectra and design accelerograms.
