Committee for Earthquake Field Studies
Area of work
The Committee focuses on acquiring and sharing knowledge and experiences related to the consequences of significant earthquakes in Serbia and abroad, through physical and/or virtual visits by SAEE members to earthquake-affected areas. The goal is for the expertise gained from past earthquakes to help professionals and government organizations understand potential earthquake impacts, in order to reduce losses, increase community resilience, and accelerate recovery in the event of future earthquakes in Serbia.

Activities
It is expected that the activities of this committee will be significant for individuals and organizations responsible for education, seismic-resistant design, assessment of building damage due to earthquakes, as well as for government bodies responsible for enacting laws and programs aimed at reducing earthquake risk. The following activities are planned for this committee: Formation of a roster of SAEE members interested in participating in field visits to earthquake-affected areas; Review of existing methodologies for inspecting buildings affected by earthquakes and adoption of a methodology tailored to the needs of SAEE teams; Development and application of advanced methods for collecting and analyzing data related to the consequences of earthquakes relevant to Serbia; Training of SAEE members to inspect buildings affected by earthquakes (field visits); Development of an electronic archive of data collected during previous SAEE field visits to earthquake-affected areas. This archive would be accessible to SAEE members via the SAEE website; Organization of lectures and other public events aimed at spreading knowledge and awareness about the consequences of recent earthquakes and lessons learned, targeted at the professional community and government organizations; Maintaining and improving cooperation with commissions of related foreign associations for joint participation in visits to earthquake-affected areas and preparation of reports and other publications; Formation of teams to actively participate in post-earthquake damage assessment of buildings (in cooperation with the Commission for Seismic Protection).
