Series "Great Minds of Earthquake Engineering" - Episode 1 - Prof. Dr. Miha Tomaževič
29.12.2025

We are pleased to present a new SUZI-SAEE initiative, “Great Minds of Earthquake Engineering”.

This initiative aims to feature the lives and work of distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of earthquake engineering throughout their professional careers, through video interviews. In this way, SUZI-SAEE aims to pay tribute to these distinguished figures, believing that these interviews will be of interest to SUZI-SAEE members as well as the wider professional community.

Each interview will generally consist of three parts. The first part will cover topics related to the distinguished individual’s childhood, upbringing, youth, and academic studies. The second part of the interview will focus on the professional career, addressing issues such as the motivation and reasons for pursuing earthquake engineering, the most interesting research projects and studies, collaboration with colleagues and mentors who have significantly influenced the individual’s career, visits and stays at leading international centers for earthquake engineering, and related topics. The third part of the interview will be dedicated to younger colleagues, including advice on professional success, maintaining a balance between private and professional life, and similar matters.

In the inaugural episode, we interviewed Prof. Dr. Miha Tomaževič from Ljubljana, Slovenia, one of the most influential international experts in earthquake engineering and masonry structures. He shared insights into his early career and motivation to study earthquake engineering, reflected on the key research projects and collaborations during his distinguished professional journey, and offered valuable advice for young engineers and researchers.
